  • [TOOL} Import User phpBB mod requires your data to be enclosed in quotation marks. Add them to your Excel file =CHAR(34)&A1&CHAR(34) #
  • You'll have to add a symbol (i.e. *) around your student usernames & passwords to upload them with the [TOOL} Import User phpBB mod #
  • [TOOL} Import User phpBB mod creates php debug errors on our bulletin board. It crashes in Chrome, but imports the student accounts in IE. #
  • You can import phpBB student account passwords in plain text or hash format. Make sure you select the correct option. #
  • Prevent students from changing their profiles in phpBB by turning that module off in the User Control Panel (Much easier than in WordPress) #
  • http://bit.ly/X1VVn #
  • Google Docs now allows you to share folders (and sub folders) without having to invite students to each and every doc. http://bit.ly/X1VVn #
  • Now you can create a handout folder in Google Docs and share the folder with students (instead of having to invite students in each doc.) #
  • Google Spreadsheets doesn't allow you to filter your tables like MS Excel does. #
  • Google Docs now allows you to upload several files at once instead of one-by-one. #
  • It's frustrating when Google Docs doesn't work properly: can't save errors, can't share errors, can't access the server… #
  • WordPress plugin to hide certain posts from the feed / front page. Looks like you have to set visibility per post. http://bit.ly/1dcK3i #
  • Simply Exclude Wordpress Plugin is an elegant way to hide certain posts from the feed / front page based on a category http://bit.ly/18zsRo #
  • Hiding an entire category means you don't have to go in and hide each post one-by-one. Better than the WP Hide Post plugin. #
  • Whoops. The Simply Exclude WordPress plugin is excluding a certain category from the front page, but also the archives accidentally. #
  • If your board has a VPN you can use MS One Note on several laptops and sync a shared notebook on the school server. #
  • Using phpBB to manage an online forum for Gr 7/8 students to discuss books (literature circles). It's like an online AQ course. #
  • Collaborative SMART board digital ink. Two different classes could work on the same project: http://imaginationcubed.com/ #
  • Online literature circles: an easier way for students to plagarize other students' ideas(cut/paste) or do they encourage meaningful dialog? #
  • School computer (windows & apps) crashed several times this week. Challenging to teach with technology when the system is unstable. #
  • We need to enforce a comment policy because we're getting a lot of self-promotion comments with links. #
  • I wish you could sort wordpress plugins by number of downloads to gauge the popularity of the plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ #
  • RT@profitplugs.com Get a free WordPress comments policy plugin at http://www.profitplugs.com/ #
  • Comment policy plugin for WordPress to add a blurb at the bottom of your comment field http://bit.ly/1lbvB #
  • Things to consider when creating a comment policy: http://bit.ly/9jLgs #
  • Rural schools using online literature circles: http://bit.ly/UjnPg #
  • Free and custom phpbb templates to use for your online literature circles forum http://www.stsoftware.biz/index.html #
  • How to install phpbb styles and templates: http://bit.ly/Opgwx #
  • With online literature circles (phpBB), we can attach rubrics/handouts for students to download. Global announcements appear at the top. #
  • Use forum permissions so only the teachers (global moderators) and students reading the novel can see the online literature circle (phpBB). #
  • Installing phpBB for online literature circles is easy. Modifying the permissions and setting up your students is the hard part. #
