- Tried the MDG Flip Tablet netbook today: Good ink/handwriting recognition. Comes with Evernote. Can you install MS Office to get their ink? #
- MDG Flip Tablet netbook: How durable is the pivoting/flipping screen? MDG claims it’s student-rugged, but does it hold up with student use? #
- MDG Flip Tablet netbook: bluetooth means you could use a bluetooth headset / microphone and use Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition. #
- MDG Flip Tablet netbook: Swivel camera means you can turn off the webcam when you don’t want it. #
- MDG Flip Tablet netbook: You need to press quite firmly on the touch-screen for it to work. It’s not as sensitive as I would have hoped. #
- MDG Flip Tablet netbook: Comes with either 2/4/8/16 GM SSD or 60GM HDD. No CD / DVD drive, but it has 2 USB ports to attach external drives. #
- Windows 7 introduces Windows Touch: How will that revolutionize existing products like the HP touch screens or the MDG Flip tablet netbook? #
- Could you buy the MDG Flip Tablet netbook for the touch screen and upgrade it to the Windows 7 RC (currently free until March 2010) #
- Get a free product key for the Windows 7 Release Candidate here: http://bit.ly/quWaz #
- Google docs only allows up to 10 people (students) edit and/or view a shared document at any given time. #
- Only 10 people can simultaneously edit a Google doc which means your entire class couldn’t be working on the same document at the same time. #
- Can you install the tablet PC (tablet pack) if you have windows XP and MS Office? We’re thinking of the MDG flip plus the ink in MS Office. #
- Just bought a MDG flip tablet netbook: 3 year warranty so we’ll see if the swivel screen can live up to the wear and tear of classroom life. #
- See when your Google docs get modified with the Google Docs Gadget on Google Desktop http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/docslistgadget.html #
- Unlike MS Word, Google Docs lets you copy and paste a web image into a Google Doc, but not a clipboard image (i.e. a screen capture). #
- There’s no equation editor in Google Docs so it’s harder for students to collaborate using fractions or exponents. #
- There’s no easy way to copy/duplicate entire Google Docs other than copy and pasting the contents or uploading the original doc many times. #
- Edublogs.org uses an older version of WordPress than what’s currently available at WordPress.org or on WordPress.com #
- There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to batch create student accounts with Edublogs.org. #
- Google Docs in the Classroom: You can download multiple files as a zipped HTML webpage but not as a Word Document. #
- Google Docs tracks the revision history but searching through it to find who wrote what is time consuming. (You can’t search by author.) #
- Grade 7 and 8 students used Google Docs a lot like how they use MSN: stream of conciousness instead of collaborative writing on paragraphs. #
- Google docs would be good for peer editing because you can insert comments which show up in a highlighted colour and your name is included. #
- Some students prefered using twitter to brainstorm than they did Google docs. (Simpler / stream of conciousness) #
- Cyber-vandalism: Should students be held accountable for vandalism that happens when someone else logs in using their twitter account? #
- Students will need a learning curve to get comfortable using Google Docs (i.e. how to navigate the revision history, insert comments, etc) #
- Google Docs seems to be better than wikispaces at merging simultaneous revisions. Our students couldn’t get it to work with Wikispaces. #
- Google Docs will still reject simultaneous revisions made by students if it’s the same sentence or word phrase. #
- Google Docs is great for student collaboration, but it can be frustrating as well – students miscommunicating, deleting each others’ work. #
- Google Chrome can be installed without administrator access to your computer. #
- Bluetooth headset that works with Dragon Naturally Speaking: http://bit.ly/QIorr #
- Headsets that are Nuance Certified to work with Dragon Naturally Speaking: http://support.nuance.com/compatibility/default.asp #
- The challenge with using Dragon Naturally Speaking in the classroom is that the background buzz interferes with the student dictation. #
- A challenge students with LD face when using Dragon Naturally Speaking is the significant training and correction required to be accurate. #
- You could use Google Docs to share a master list of textbooks between teachers to keep track of books returned in other classes. #
- Google Analytics isn’t tracking our Adsense earnings correctly. Is it the WordPress plugin for Analytics that we’re using or something else? #
- Using ipod touch in the classroom: http://bit.ly/kMMAm
Wish we had the money. # - Google Latitude lets you track cell phones on a Google Map. This month, a student had their iPhone stolen. Wonder if Latitude was activated. #
- Would igoogle be a practical way for you to keep track of when other people have made changes to a common Google Doc file? #
- WordPress 2.8 (released this week http://wordpress.org) supports the IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite Module which should allow us to get prettier links. #
- It’s $50 to get the Google Analytics Individual Qualification:http://google.com/support/conversionuniversity/bin/static.py?page=iq_faq.cs #
- AdWords Certification:https://adwords.google.com/support/select/professionals/bin/answer.py?answer=12241&cbid=-o68n0qbap302&src=cb&lev=index #
- Google AdWords certification requires you spend $1000 over a 90 day period in keyword Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. #
- We couldn’t log into our Microsoft AdCenter account using Google’s Chrome web browser. Intentional or accidental web design? #
- If you use WordPress on your student/class blog & comments are open to the public be prepared for a lot of spam (Akismet won’t catch it all) #
- Tweaked Norton Ghost to make backups of the home computer; Now we need to tweak our cron jobs to backup our WordPress blogs and websites. #
- Starting to get several php memory errors on a few of our websites. Are we starting to out grow our current webhosting plan? #
- WordPress 2.8 allows you to install new themes from your student/class blog directly. Now you don’t need any technical knowledge at all! #
- If you use WordPress.org for your class/student blog, upgrade to the latest version of WordPress (2.8) with “one click” from your dashboard. #
- Upgrading to WordPress 2.8 from your dashboard may not work if you run into a PHP memory problem. (The simple scripts from BlueHost worked.) #
- The One Click Plugin Updater plugin has become obsolete now that WordPress 2.8 allows you to install plugins AND themes from the dashboard. #
- Thinking about getting a SMART phone or maybe Rogers’ USB High Speed Internet Stick. It’s amazing how quickly the monthly charges add up. #
- The Robots Meta WordPress plugin allows you to edit your .htaccess file all from the comfort of your dashboard. Convenient yet dangerous. #
- Robots Meta WordPress plugin can add the verify meta value for Google, Yahoo & MSN Webmaster Tools. http://yoast.com/wordpress/robots-meta #
- Register your WordPress blog / site with Google Webmaster Tools to see what position you hold for the search terms people use to find you. #
- Use Google Alerts (http://www.google.com/alerts) to monitor your digital footprint (i.e. information about you online.) #
- Couldn’t get the Advertising Manager Plugin for WordPress to display google ads. Disappointing. Back to using the Who Sees Ads plugin. #
- Who Sees Ads WordPress plugin can display an “Ad Placeholder” so you don’t click on your Google Ads but still get a sense of the layout. #
